Trading

Hand things to another player, or swap safely across a trade table.

Opens: From the start

Anyone, on any team. Both of you must be on foot, alive, not cuffed, not being arrested or searched, and not in jail.

Handing something over

I, pick a pile, Give to…, pick somebody within 3.5 m, then the amount. It’s instant and one-way: they can’t refuse it, and nothing comes back.

The trade table

  1. Look at the player, press X and pick Trade (within 2.5 m).
  2. They answer Y to accept or L to decline. They have 10 seconds, and no answer is a no.
  3. You each get a table:
    • Put something up: it leaves your pockets and sits on your side.
    • Cash: put up $10 to $100,000, or everything you carry.
    • Agree to this: once you’ve both agreed, the swap happens. Any change by either of you clears both agreements.
    • Call it off: everything goes back.

At the swap the cash is checked again. If somebody no longer has it, both agreements clear and you start over. If your pockets can’t take a pile, it goes back to whoever offered it, and the rest of the swap still happens.

A trade ends, everything going home, if you’re more than 4 m apart, get into a vehicle, die, go to jail, get cuffed, arrested or searched, teleport, disconnect or close the menu. That holds even across a restart.

What can’t be traded: anything worn or held in your hands (take it off or put it down first; see Carrying things), anything bound to you (the walkthrough’s phone), and houses and vehicles. See Items and your pockets.

There’s no fee, tax or cooldown.

Tips

  • Use the table for anything valuable. Give to is a gift.
  • Agree last.
  • Fish are real items, so you can trade them (see Fishing). The pawn shop won’t buy them.
