Firefighter

Join at the desk of any of the seven fire stations (see Joining a team). Each has a garage with the Fire Truck, free, one every 5 seconds, and an Equipment marker with free tools that open with your rank: an extinguisher, flashlight and flares from the start, a stone hatchet at rank 1, a flare gun at 2, a hatchet and a wrench at 3, a jerry can at 5.

Fighting a fire

1. Wait for dispatch. A card names the fire, the area and the distance. Press Y straight away to set a waypoint; the option only lasts a few seconds. A fire’s blip shows on your map from anywhere; everybody else only sees it close up.

2. Know the fires. The city burns one at a time:

   Businesses that rivals set alight are called in the same way. A new city fire breaks out a couple of minutes after the last one is out. Fires never burn out on their own.

3. Use the hose. At your Fire Truck, press X and choose Add Fire Hose. Left click turns the water on and off. It reaches about 10 m, you have to aim at the flames, and walls block it. Getting into a vehicle drops it.

4. Or the extinguisher, which reaches 5 m. X at the Fire Truck, then Refill fire extinguisher, tops it up.

5. Stay close. A flame only counts for you if you’re within 60 m of it.

There’s one rank title, Firefighter. Rank opens the station’s equipment, and every point counts toward your total level.

Tips

• Stay to the end. Everyone near the last flame gets the $300.
• The building fires have 30 flames or more, so bring other firefighters.
• J silences the siren of the Fire Truck while you drive it and its siren is on.
