Joining a team
Police, medic and firefighter are jobs you sign up for at a desk, paid by the city every game week.
Opens: From the start, if you're not wanted
Everyone starts as a civilian. The police, the medics and the firefighters are jobs you sign up for at the front desk of their building, and you leave them at the same desk.
When you can join
- No level is needed. You can sign up on your first day.
- You can’t be wanted, not even one star.
- Police only: no unpaid speed-camera fines. Pay them at any police desk under Tickets, in cash.
Where
| Team | Buildings | What’s inside |
|---|---|---|
| Police | Mission Row | Desk, locker, armoury and garage |
| Sandy Shores, Paleto Bay Sheriff’s Station | Desk only | |
| Medic | Central Los Santos, Pillbox Hill, Mount Zonah, St. Fiacre, Sandy Shores, The Bay Care Center (Paleto) | Desk and garage |
| Eclipse Medical Tower | Desk only | |
| Firefighter | Rockford Hills, LSIA, Davis, El Burro Heights, Sandy Shores, Paleto Bay, Fort Zancudo | Desk, garage and equipment |
Joining and leaving
- Walk into the desk marker. The top row says Switch to Law Enforcement (or Medic, or Firefighter).
- Pick it. Everyone on the server sees a line in chat that you joined, and your uniform goes on: a random one the first time, then the last one you wore on that team.
- To leave, go back to a desk of your own team and pick Switch to Civilian.
If staff have barred you from a team, its desk refuses you and tells you why.
You can’t go straight from one team to another: another team’s desk says “You may not switch teams here”. Go back to civilian first.
What changes
-
Your weapons. Each team keeps its own weapon wheel. Your civilian guns are put away while you’re on duty and come back when you return. You’re handed your team’s kit:
Team Kit Police Stun gun, nightstick, flashlight Medic Flashlight Firefighter Flashlight, fire extinguisher -
Your pockets are yours whatever team you’re on.
-
Your rank. Each team has its own, and switching never loses one. You only earn a team’s XP while you’re on it, and all of it counts toward your total level too.
-
No wanted level. Officers, medics and firefighters never carry one.
-
Logging out keeps you on your team.
Pay: the weekly paycheck
Team work isn’t paid in cash on the spot. It goes into your paycheck, which the city pays at the end of each game week (about 5 hours 36 minutes). If you’re offline when the week turns, you’re paid when you next log in, and if you worked for more than one team that week, each team pays. It arrives as cash in hand.
The city pays wages out of its treasury, so the share you get depends on how healthy it is:
| Treasury | Share of wages paid |
|---|---|
| Broke ($0 or less) | 60% |
| Between $0 and $5,000,000 | Rising from 60% toward 100% |
| At the $5,000,000 target | 100% |
| Above it | Up to 110% |
The Wages line at City Hall shows the current share.
Income tax comes off the whole paycheck in bands:
| Part of the paycheck | Tax |
|---|---|
| First $10,000 | None |
| $10,000 to $30,000 | 8% |
| $30,000 to $75,000 | 15% |
| Above $75,000 | 22% |
When the week turns you get a chat line with your gross pay, the income tax taken and what you keep, and a Maze Bank notification. If the city couldn’t pay in full, a second line says how much of what you earned it paid, and why. The whole server is told too: the week that closed, what the city collected and paid out, and what the treasury now holds.
